BG Holiday Parade (11/16/16)

Saturday, November 19th, 2016

8:30 AM Band Room OPEN to get uniforms, raincoats, music and instruments, etc. You also may take your gear home the day before. The white truck will be for the largest gear, only. Do not plan on leaving instrument cases at Ridge School/Park – leave them in your cars, etc.

9:15 AM Band Room CLOSES!!

9:30 AM Assemble at Ridge Park (formerly Ridge Elementary School) located on east Ridge Street near Summit Avenue.

10:00 AM Parade starting time

(We are unit # 81) Our unit (BMB) will likely step off at 10:40am.

Parade route is Main St. going South to Kenwood School.

12:15- 12:30 PM Approximate ending time – arrange to be picked up at Kenwood School. Return uniforms, Raincoats & instruments BACK to BGHS immediately. Percussion & Sousaphones please take them to upper deck in band room in cases.

1:40 pm Band Room CLOSES for the day!!

BAND “NOTES”:

1) White SOCKS, not footies, when we wear long trousers! White Gloves, also!!!

2) The weather is going to be cold. We want you to layer appropriately for the weather conditions. We will wear full uniforms and most likely wear our raincoats on top of the uniform. Sometimes we wear the raincoats until just before we started and then took them off for our parade performance.

3) We often are the LAST band – and the hometown favorite! Plan to LOOK SHARP and PLAY GREAT!

4) You MAY pick up uniforms/raincoat/instruments, etc. on Friday after school. However, ALL items MUST be returned, stored and accounted for immediately after the parade. NO EXCEPTIONS!

Volunteers Needed (11/2/16)

Thank You to those families who have stepped up and committed to working this Saturday night at the concession stands.  We are on our way, but we need more help here...

We need YOU to raise your hand and help out with this important part of home football games - especially if you have not been able to help before.  It's only a few hours, and you get to know other band parents as well as have a nice warm place to be during the game.

We need 8 more families to join us on Saturday from 6:00pm till the end of the game.

Chaperone Meeting (11/01/16)

We are less than 60 days from our trip, and it's soon time to get together and work out final details from a chaperone point of view. We are having a mandatory meeting for all chaperones on Monday November 14th at 7:00 pm in the high school band room.  

We will be reviewing the following:

Room assignments
Rules for students on the trip
Chaperone responsibilities
Group assignments for Chaperones
Gather information required for trip:
     Phone numbers
     Medical forms
     Review medical issues with specific students in groups. ( Medicine,  Food Allergies, Etc.)
Review Itinerary

This is a meeting that you must not miss.  The items covered will be crucial to a good trip for both you and your students and will also be a basis for you to be able to answer questions at the upcoming trip meeting in December.  PLEASE BE HERE!


Playoff Game (10/31/16)

Thanks to the strong play of the Bobcat Football team, we are hosting our first playoff game of the season next weekend AT HOME!!!!:

Football Game is Saturday, November 5 at 7:00pm, Band Family Concession workers are needed, starting at 5:45.  It's indoors!  It's warm!

If you have not had the chance during the regular season to help out because of the Friday night schedules, then make the most of this chance.  Concessions are a key fund raiser for your student.

Friday Game Info (10/28/16)

Call time is 5:00pm.   Remember that tomorrow is also Secret Sibs reveal night!  Secret sibs + new marchers should come early to do the reveal before call time.

SENIOR PARENTS: Call time for senior parents is 6pm in the HS small gym.  

ALL FAMILIES:  Liz Webb and our band officers/seniors are planning a band post game party tomorrow night.  It will take place in the band room area until 11:30pm.  Students are encouraged to come and celebrate a great season! Students are also encouraged to bring snacks to share.  We ask each class to contribute the following:

Seniors: desserts/halloween candy, Juniors: Simple side dishes or fruit, Sophomores: chips or other snacks, Freshmen: drinks

Concert Season is fast approaching.  We are in the middle of listening to playing tests, and we remind students that this test is part of this quarter's grade.  Happy practicing!

Friday Game Info (10/19/16)

Congratulations to all on last night's Fall Concert.  We appreciate all of your hard work throughout this season and congratulate all of the award winners. We have just two more regular season games.  Friday we have no school but the call time remains 5:00PM at the high school for load up.  We will return - as usual - to the high school around 9:45 PM.


Tuesday, October 18th - Indoor Marching Band Concert - 7:00pm in the PAC (10/17/16)

5:30pm Call Time for band members (change into uniform {no hats/no gloves}, short rehearsal on stage, . . .  ) The BMB Indoor Concert has often been a favorite for many fans.  We encourage you to invite your friends and neighbors.  Playing Tests:  Flute, Clarinet, Saxophones, Trumpets, Trombones, and Euphoniums should all have their playing test music (and prepare for your tests).  Flute and Clarinet playing tests will be Wednesday and Thursday (October 19th & 20th).  All other playing tests will be next week.  


Band Trip Chaperone Mandatory Meeting Coming Up! (10/17/16)

TAG Day, Saturday, October 15th (10/11/16)

The Bowling Green Band students will be participating in our Second Annual Tag Day on Saturday, October 15th, from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.  Last year the high school band received over $6000 in donations from the Bowling Green Community and the interaction between the students and community was a positive experience for all.  This year we are extending the event to include 7th and 8th graders. Tag Day is an opportunity for band students to go door to door to request and collect donations from Bowling Green community members.  We will be having the students wear their band uniform to be identified as band members.  (Students, please plan to wear your red performing arts polo shirt). We will meet at 9:30am in the HS Band Room.  

We are in need of parent drivers! 


Friday Night Game Info (9/30/16)

5:00 CALL TIME

UNIFORM: Pirates: wear pirate costumes and Red Rain Coats.  Red Coats: wear white band shoes, blue jeans, red band rain coats, and something to keep you extra dry/warm.

Marching in with the BMB:  Please welcome the class of 1966! AFTER THE GAME:  Selected Band Members will go to FRICKERS for TV Broadcast - You need to be there before 10:15pm.

Bobcat Marching Band Additional Rehearsal Needed (9/21/16)

Thursday Evening  (September 22nd) from 6:15pm – 7:45pm

We are strongly encouraging band students to attend one additional rehearsal this Thursday evening in preparation for our shows on Friday and Saturday.  The students have been working hard in class to prepare for their show but with several two hour delays and limited class time, we could use a little more rehearsal time.  We understand that students have other commitments and may need to arrive late or leave early, but we ask that they do their best to be at rehearsal.  Attendance at this rehearsal will not be part of the grade but will dramatically help us prepare for the BMB shows this weekend.  


The Bobcat Marching Band This Week September 19th-23rd-24th (9/19/16)

First, thank you to the BMB for quickly learning the beginning of our pirate show for Friday’s performance at Maumee.  You have made us “BOBCAT PROUD.”

Football Game this Friday, Sept. 23rd FB Game Performance @ Perrysburg  4:44pm Call Time!   Please be prepared to wear your full uniform.  This includes Red band shirt under the coat so that we can take off our band coats during the third quarter and still look uniform.  

Anthony Wayne Band Festival (Itinerary for SATURDAY, September 24th, 2016)

The BMB travels to Anthony Wayne High School for the Anthony Wayne Band Festival from 2:30pm - 1100pm.

Reminder:  this is a required performance (It is part of your grade) If you are an athlete and need to make other travel arrangements to meet us at Anthony Wayne HS, we need to know that in advance in writing (and you will need to make sure you have your uniforms, instrument, lyre, flip folder…).  My sports schedule shows we have only a couple of minor conflicts that can easily be resolved.  

Attire: Be prepared to wear both your summer uniform and Full uniform.  We will start out in our summer uniform and change into full uniforms after the rehearsal at Anthony Wayne.

2:22pm Call Time – Meet in the Bowling Green High School Band Room.  We will have a short rehearsal here (or when we arrive at AW), Load the Buses and Truck and travel to AW.

Upon arrival at AW, we will go to the COMBINED BAND rehearsal of “God Bless the USA” at the AW HS FB Stadium.

AFTER REHEARSAL:  A picnic dinner will be provided at the North end of the AW HS (hot dog, chips, fruit, dessert/snack item, and drink).  Please show your appreciation for their efforts to serve you dinner!  This is a chance to mingle with members of the other bands.  Please be polite and respectful.  We are guests and are representing the Bowling Green schools and community.    

We will change into full uniform just before or after dinner.  We have limited time so please move quickly.  

7:00pm Anthony Wayne Band Festival Begins!

Please be good audience members for the other bands.  

After the Anthony Wayne band performs, we will re-enter the field for our mass band performance of the “God Bless the USA.”  

After the mass band selection, meet and greet other band members ….and maybe an impromptu performance of Sweet Child, another tune, and/or cadences.

Fundraiser Reminders (9/12/16)

Thank you for participating in our middle school band fundraiser this year!  This is a reminder that fundraising forms and money are due this week.  Please have your student turn in the completed form and money in their provided envelop BEFORE SCHOOL on:

Tuesday, September 13th; Wednesday, September 14th; or Thursday,  September 15th

 Coupon Book Early Bird Winner (8/4/16)

Congratulations to the Early Bird Winner for the coupon book sales! Abraham Brockway's name was drawn Friday night before the band left for Eastwood. He was one of 14 band members who had turned in coupon book money for at least 8 coupon books by August 27th. Congratulations Abraham!

There are more prizes to be distributed at the end of the sale. To qualify for the remaining prizes you must have all money and unsold coupon books turned in by Saturday, September 17th.

2nd place: $75
3rd place: $50

All students who sell 8 books will have a chance to win 1 of 9 $25 prizes. Remaining scheduled times for coupon book/money pick up/drop off are:

4:55PM Meet in BGHS *REPORT IN SUMMER UNIFORM
 
*We will either wear full uniform or summer uniform.  Be prepared for both.  *Always wear Red Band Shirt under full uniform.

Halftime:  We perform first at away games, then be a great audience for the other band.  Also, play in the stands during the game.  
At away games, we do not perform our pregame show. After the game, Load the truck, the  buses, and return to BGHS. *Put uniforms away properly after returning to BGHS.

3. Friday, October 28th - Senior Band Member Recognition - Senior Band Members and their parents are recognized at this game.

Band Trip Fundraising Opportunity (8/24/16) 

On Sunday, August 28th,  we have an opportunity for several students to earn money toward their band trip by spending a few hours  (4pm - 8pm) at the BGSU athletic fields.  This has been a reliable source of fundraising for us over the years.  Money earned for completing goal take down at the end of the big soccer tournament will be applied to band trip accounts for each of these participating students/adults.  So if you need some more money to make your trip fund goal,contact Jay Simler at This email address is being protected from spambots. Bobcat Marching Band Itinerary (8/24/16)

BG vs. Rossford – HOME GAME Friday, August 26th, 2016
Report to the band room in your summer uniform (red band shirt, khaki band shorts, white socks, white band shoes, and a smile).  Depending on the weather, we may wear summer uniforms or FULL uniforms.  Students need to wear red band shirt under coat (note sometimes we allow students to take off coats if they are wearing their red band shirts). 

5:00 PM Report time to the band room – Secret Sib Deliveries, Follow instructions upon arrival – check the screen, listen to drum majors & directors. Make sure you have your white band shoes, khaki band shorts, red band shirt, white socks (long), …Rehearsal – pregame & halftime, Water Break,  Conquest,  March to the stadium, PREGAME.

7:00 PM Kick-Off   Go Bobcats!  Beat the Bulldogs! The bleacher design is new.  Follow instructions closely going to the bleachers. 

7:50 pm (approx.) Half-Time   (We perform first at away games and last at home games.) Enter from sideline  “SING”  then “CHEERLEADER”   then  “WE’RE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER” ….Fight Song (chair step)  as we exit field. Return to the stands, perc leave instruments neatly on track by grandstand, play spirit tune(s), concessions & restroom break during third quarter, be back in seats for fourth quarter.

9:30 pm (approx.) End of game/ Post Game You’ll need the Fight Song & Alma Mater & other? 

10:00pm Make sure you properly care for your instrument and uniform upon return.  Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Fan Fair Day – Bobcat Day – Bobcat Fanfare August 20th (8/19/16

BAND UNIFORM:  Red Band Shirt, Band Khaki Shorts, TENNIS SHOES, and a smile. 
FALL ATHLETES: Wear the same uniform as the other members of their team (tennis, FB, CC, Soccer, Golf, VB, Cheerleaders)  but report to the band room with the band.

~  3:45pm Band students arrive in HS Band Room
~  Quick WARM UP in the band room, Form Conquest outside the band room to march to the stadium – WE ARE THE FIRST GROUP TO ENTER THE STADIUM
~  Fire truck, Cheerleaders, and athletic teams will follow the band into the stadium
~  After entering the Bobcat FB Stadium, the band will go directly into our PREGAME performance
~  DM’s enter, Perc & Sousaphones enter, Winds enter, minstrel turns,
~  SUMMON the BOBCATS, Fight Song, SWEET CHILD ‘O MINE (SPIRIT Tune with the cheerleaders),   ALMA MATER, The SSB will be sung by Ellen Scholl,   Hey Song??? 
~  BC introduces band to audience then all band members that are also fall athletes report to their team to be introduced with their team members!  Others remain with the band.
~  Approximate ending time of the event ~ 5:30pm.  All students need to be responsible for putting their instrument and music away after the event.  

WEATHER CONCERNS?   There is a chance of rain Saturday afternoon.  If the event is moved indoors or cancelled due to weather concerns, we will keep you informed.


Pancake Tickets and Money Due Friday! (8/17/16)

All tickets and money collected for this weekend's Pancake Breakfast are due to Mr. Corrigan by the end of school on Friday! Please make sure that you have completed this important task. Please be on the lookout for a Band Blast later on with a complete itinerary for Saturday's events. Thanks, and see you this weekend!


Pancake Breakfast (8/15/16)

As this weekend's Pancake Breakfast approaches, we need to have your student's unsold ticket books and money for sold tickets returned by Friday. If they had not mentioned it to you, your student will earn $3.00 for each ticket sold from the first ticket!  Money and unsold tickets must be returned in an envelope to the secure lock box in the band room by Friday end of school.  A reminder to your students will be appreciated!

Pancake Breakfast Team Volunteers (8/15/16)

This note is going to all of those who expressed their desire to help with the pancake breakfast this weekend, either by a signup sheet at the meeting or on the purple volunteer sheet. I have accomodated all requests for specific days and times. We will run about 18 people per shift, with two shifts each day.  It's important that you stay for your shift or that if you must leave early, you let Tom Pendleton know so that your spot can be covered if need be.

This year we will be using the kitchen facilities which will make preparation, serving, and clean up a great deal easier.  There will be 9 different roles at the breakfast, and most of the inside work will be done by parents while the students will man the firetruck at the curb and drive customers inside.  The  Bobcat Cheer team will also be joining them.  If your student is coming to help, have them dress in red and gray!

Coupon Books (8/10/16)

Please remember ALL MONEY and UNSOLD BOOKS must be turned in by 9/17/16. The schedule to drop off money from sold books and pick up more books is as follows:

-Friday August 19th: 5-7 pm at 303 Curtis Ave., BG
-Saturday August 27th: 10 - noon at 838 Jefferson Dr., BG
-Saturday September 3rd: 10 - noon at 303 Curtis Ave., BG
-Saturday September 10th: 10 - noon at 838 Jefferson Dr., BG
-Saturday September 17th: 10 - noon at 838 Jefferson Dr., BG and 4 - 6

Finally, we have made one change to accommodate dropping off money. We will now be collecting Coupon Book money from the locked drop box in the band office. If your student has cash or checks please have them place it in an envelope with their name, their class, the total amount of cash/checks enclosed and have them drop it in the box.  It will be collected and reconciled off site.

Please remember - do not have your students hand money to Mr. Corrigan or Mr. Sison as we are making every attempt to prevent them from having to be involved in the management of this process.

Band Parent Preview Night Update (8/10/16)

Your students have been working very hard this week preparing for the new season and for tomorrow's Band Preview Night.  Please note the updated event information:
 

-Due to the extremely dry grass on the football field and the delicate condition of the turf, we will have the band preview performance in the practice area of the west parking lot.  
-In order to make it more comfortable for both the students and guests, we have moved the performance time back to 7:30PM.  (1/2 hour later than before)
-Students shall now report to the High School at 7:00PM.  (1/2 hour later than before)
-Remember that we have a last-minute Chipotle fundraiser tomorrow starting at 4:00pm.  No coupon is needed - just tell them you are with the Bobcat Band

Chipotle Fund Raiser Thursday August 11th

Chipotle in Bowling Green has come through with a fund raiser for the band! It will take place on Thursday, August 11th from 4:00Pm - 8:00PM. No coupon or flyer is needed; simply tell them that you are there for the Bobcat Band and all will be well. Hope to See you there!


Band Parent Preview Night (8/7/16)

Thursday, August 11th is Band Parent Preview Night!  Students: 6:30pm meet in band room. Parents meet at 7pm in stadium for the show. See you all at the band parent meeting tomorrow night at 6:00pm in the PAC.


Band Parent Meeting (8/4/16)

Monday, August 8, 6:00 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center. All band parents are encouraged to attend this meeting.  Topics covered will include: trip update, fundraisers, communications, and volunteer opportunities.  Parents can pick up coupon books and sign up for SCRIP in the lobby after the meeting.  Freshmen and new parents will learn about BBFB and receive uniform information.

Wood County Fair Performance (7/28/16)

We are looking forward to kicking off the Bobcat Band 2016-17 season with our performance at the Wood County Fair Performance on Monday, August 1st.  Thanks to all parents and students for a great start to the year.  Itinerary Link

Reminders:  
- Please turn in medical forms (yellow) and volunteer forms (purple) in the band collection box (pink) located in the HS band room.
- If marching band shoes have not been ordered yet, please do so asap by contacting Rettig Music 1-800-526-8742.

Summer Rehearsals (6/28/16)
